An ABS optical coupler (often referred to as an ABS Box PLC Splitter or ABS FBT Coupler) is a fiber optic signal distribution device housed in a rugged, plastic (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) box. It is used to split a single or dual fiber optic light signal into multiple, identical, or pre-determined ratios of output signals. The “ABS” refers to the protective casing, while the, inner component is usually a Planar Lightwave Circuit (PLC) chip or Fused Biconical Taper (FBT) fiber.
